JOB DESCRIPTION

Waterline views data as a corporate asset. The Information Services team is responsible for the management, analysis, and delivery of all environmental information products. To best manage this ever-expanding asset, we have designed a proprietary web-based geospatial application called EnviroWeb Services (EWS) to store, manage, and visualize all geospatial and chemistry data collected by our field staff. EWS is at the core of multiple Waterline workflows as it provides a platform for data quality management, project intelligence, and workflow efficiency. EWS allows Waterline to produce automated and semi-automated report-ready scientific deliverables.


We are looking for an Environmental Data Management Specialist to join our team of software developers, and GIS and data analysts. The successful candidate will use EWS and other data management tools to contribute to the analysis, organization, and delivery of environmental chemistry products with a focus on contaminated sites and water resource development.


Preference will be given to individuals currently residing in Alberta or BC.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in environmental data management;

  • Experience in tabular environmental chemistry data management (soil, surface water, and groundwater);

  • Experience managing numerical and statistical datasets in databases and Excel;

  • Working knowledge of the life cycle of chemical analytical data management (e.g. laboratory uploads, chains of custody, data validation, and reporting);

  • Experience with Alberta and BC regulatory requirements (e.g., Alberta Tier 1 and 2 Soil and Groundwater Remediation Guidelines and BC Contaminated Sites Regulation);

  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills;

  • Superior organization and time management skills;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Self-driven and committed to continuous learning and growth; and,

  • Prioritizes quality and has well developed quality review strategies.

DESIRABLE ASSETS

  • An environmental technician degree is preferred;

  • Field experience in the environmental consulting industry is an asset but not a requirement;

  • Working knowledge of database structure, query design, and maintenance; and,

  • Interest and/or experience in geospatial technologies.

 

JOB DUTIES

  • Coordinate transfer of field and laboratory data to EWS;

  • Set up new projects and associated guidelines in EWS;

  • Interact with internal clients to support database management and data visualization;

  • Participate in the revision of table style standards;

  • Compile and verify large and diverse datasets;

  • Review and validate compiled data uploads to minimize errors, inconsistencies, and anomalies;

  • Detailed data review of EWS exports for quality and consistency;

  • Create data charts and ensure consistency with historical charts;

  • Create report-ready PDF copies of final table products;

  • Complete borehole logs and other deliverables to support reporting; and,

  • Provide input on application feature enhancement, bugs, and workflow improvements.
