Intermediate/Senior Hydrogeochemist, Alberta or BC

Waterline Resources Inc. is a leading environmental consulting firm specializing in the investigation, evaluation, risk assessment, and remediation of contaminated sites. Due to growing project demands, we have immediate openings for experienced and motivated environmental professionals in our Calgary office.
 

This is a full-time, permanent position that will include a fieldwork component. There is some flexibility as to where the position will be based such that the selected candidate may choose to work in the Calgary, Nanaimo, or the Prince George office. Other locations may be considered.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree from recognized University in hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry, or geochemistry.

  • Possesses professional designation or eligible for registration in Alberta and/or British Columbia.

  • Minimum of eight years of relevant industry experience in environmental science.

  • Strong background in hydrogeochemistry applied to regional- and local­scale groundwater assessments.

  • Experience in the assessment of groundwater-surface water interactions as characterized by groundwater chemistry and isotopic composition.

  • Experience or knowledge using environmental tracers to characterize groundwater flow systems.

  • Experience with groundwater flow modeling (e.g., MODFLOW).

  • Experience with hydrogeochemical speciation and reactive transport modeling, such as PHREEQC, NETPATH, etc.

  • Candidates with experience in the assessment of acid mine drainage (AMD) are preferred.

  • Candidates with groundwater monitoring and sampling, drilling supervision, wellsite geology, well installation, and/or aquifer testing experience are preferred.

  • Familiarity with water sampling and quality assurance/quality control procedures.

  • Candidates must be comfortable working in remote field settings, including groundwater sampling and testing in winter conditions.

  • Strong work ethic with well-developed organizational and time management skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication.

  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Experience with the review and assessment of natural and contaminant chemistry data.

  • Proficiency with MS Software WORD, and EXCEL.

  • Valid health and safety training certificates: Standard First Aid, H2S-Alive, TDG, WHIMIS would be an asset.

  • Valid Alberta or British Columbia Driver’s license (must provide Driver’s Abstract).

  • Must be willing to submit to drug and alcohol testing.

If applying for a position in BC candidates must meet the following criteria:  

 

  • Project experience in BC with a proven track record and strong client relationships in BC;

  • Possess professional designation as an engineer or geoscientist with EGBC;

  • Posses a strong knowledge of geology/hydrogeology/geology of mining districts in BC; and

  • Detailed understanding of regulatory environment in BC as it relates to the Water Sustainability Act (WSA), and other environmental legislation (EAA/EMA) pertaining to municipal, mining (MA), and oil and gas (OGAA).

DUTIES

  • Provide technical support in the interpretation of groundwater chemistry data to support Waterline’s projects, including but not limited to:

    • The development of conceptual hydrogeological models;

    • Groundwater contaminant assessment and delineation;

    • Fate and transport modelling;

    • Risk assessment; and

    • Drinking water quality assessment.

  • Develop new business opportunities and enhance existing client relationships.

  • Mentor staff and expand Waterline’s expertise in hydrogeochemistry.

  • Interact with and/or report to Waterline’s senior project managers. 

  • Assist in data interpretation and report preparation.

Intermediate Hydrogeologist/Environmental Engineer, Calgary, Alberta

Waterline Resources Inc. is a leading environmental consulting firm specializing in the investigation, evaluation, risk assessment, and remediation of contaminated sites. Due to growing project demands, we have immediate openings for experienced and motivated environmental professionals in our Calgary office.
 

This position involves a combination of field and office work; travel will be required from time to time, as project needs dictate but this position is primarily office-based. The successful candidate will coordinate projects, direct and supervise field staff, liaise with senior professionals, subcontractors, remediation contractors, and clients, prepare reports, and participate in marketing and business development efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 to 10 years experience in contaminated site assessment, remediation, or risk assessment

  • Bachelor degree or technical diploma in hydrogeology, civil/geoenvironmental/chemical or environmental engineering, remediation, project management, risk assessment, or a related field

  • Demonstrated track record of increasing project responsibilities

  • Experience with both the Alberta and British Columbia regulatory regimes is considered to be an asset

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and writing skills

  • The ability to be flexible and adapt to change

  • Registration or eligibility for registration with a recognized professional organization (e.g. APEGA)

Junior Environmental Scientist, Calgary, Alberta or Prince George, BC

Waterline Resources Inc. is a leading environmental consulting firm specializing in the investigation, evaluation, risk assessment, and remediation of contaminated sites. Due to growing project demands, we have immediate openings for experienced and motivated environmental professionals in our Calgary office. This is a contract employee position that will include a significant fieldwork component.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of one year of experience in environmental science or engineering discipline

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree from a recognized university in environmental or soil science, geology, hydrogeology or engineering discipline

  • Registration or eligibility for registration with a recognized professional organization (e.g. APEGA)

  • Candidates with groundwater monitoring and sampling, drilling supervision, wellsite geology, well installation, and/or aquifer testing experience are preferred

  • Candidates must be comfortable working in a remote field setting for extended periods of time, including soil and groundwater sampling, and water well sampling and testing in winter weather

  • Strong work ethic with well-developed organizational and time management skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication

  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • Proficiency with MS Software Word, and Excel

  • Valid health and safety training certificates: Standard First Aid, H2S-Alive, TDG, WHIMIS would be an asset
