Intermediate Hydrogeologist/Environmental Engineer, Calgary, Alberta

Waterline Resources Inc. is a leading environmental consulting firm specializing in the investigation, evaluation, risk assessment, and remediation of contaminated sites. Due to growing project demands, we have immediate openings for experienced and motivated environmental professionals in our Calgary office.
 

This position involves a combination of field and office work; travel will be required from time to time, as project needs dictate but this position is primarily office-based. The successful candidate will coordinate projects, direct and supervise field staff, liaise with senior professionals, subcontractors, remediation contractors, and clients, prepare reports, and participate in marketing and business development efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 to 10 years experience in contaminated site assessment, remediation, or risk assessment

  • Bachelor degree or technical diploma in hydrogeology, civil/geoenvironmental/chemical or environmental engineering, remediation, project management, risk assessment, or a related field

  • Demonstrated track record of increasing project responsibilities

  • Experience with both the Alberta and British Columbia regulatory regimes is considered to be an asset

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and writing skills

  • The ability to be flexible and adapt to change

  • Registration or eligibility for registration with a recognized professional organization (e.g. APEGA)

Intermediate/Senior Hydrogeologist/Environmental Engineer, Grande Prairie or Fort St. John

Waterline Resources Inc. (Waterline) is a leading environmental and groundwater consulting firm. Our environmental group specializes in environmental assessment, risk assessment and management, and remediation of contaminated sites. Our head office is in Calgary Alberta with two regional offices in Nanaimo and Prince George BC, and smaller field offices in Courtenay, Vancouver, and Victoria BC. Waterline has 40+ groundwater/environmental and database professionals working on many challenging environmental projects across Western Canada. We have an immediate opening for an intermediate or senior environmental professional in northwest Alberta and/or northeast BC to help service our existing clients and growing project demands in the region.

 

We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual who is interested in taking on a leadership role in expanding our operations in northwest Alberta (Grande Prairie) and northeast BC (Fort Saint John and Dawson Creek) with the support of principal and senior staff in our existing offices in Alberta and BC.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 to 10+ years of experience in contaminated site assessment, remediation, and risk assessment/management;

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in hydrogeology, geology, agrology, environmental engineering, or a related discipline;

  • Professional designation in Alberta or BC;

  • Business-minded, motivated, and innovative, with proven business development skills and highly developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills;

  • Detailed knowledge of the Alberta and BC regulatory system as it relates to contaminated site assessment and remediation, and groundwater protection and licensing; and

  • Must have demonstrated track record of increasing project responsibilities with strongly developed leadership, interpersonal, and oral/written/presentation skills.

Preference will be given to candidates having established relationships with local oil and gas clients with the opportunity to develop a portfolio of environmental work. Although relocation is possible within Alberta or BC, preference will be given to applicants currently located in Grande Prairie, Dawson Creek, or Fort Saint John.

JOB DUTIES

 

  • Coordinate and manage existing client-base in northwest Alberta and northeast BC;

  • Develop and market Waterline’s business services by maintaining, enhancing, and expanding existing client relationships, and developing and expanding new client relationships;

  • Coordinate and initiate projects, manage project budgets and timelines, direct field programs and/or supervise field staff;

  • Liaise with Waterline’s senior management, clients, regulatory officials, and stakeholders;

  • Lead and mentor junior staff;

  • Prepare and review technical reports that are concise and meet our client’s goals and objectives and prepare presentations for our clients, regulators, and stakeholders;

  • Lead client meetings and provide expert witness/testimony (depending on experience); and

  • Report directly to Waterline’s Environmental Services Manager in our Calgary Head Office.

Starting base salary is commensurate with education, experience, and professional registration. Waterline offers an extensive health care and drug plan, performance bonus, and profit-sharing program to qualifying staff.
