Intermediate Software Developer, Calgary, Alberta

The Waterline Information Services team has developed a geospatial groundwater and environmental information web application driven by a spatially enabled open-source database.  Our goal is to continue to adapt and expand the available tools and data to meet evolving internal and external client needs. 

We are looking for an Intermediate GIS Developer to our team of developers and GIS analysts to contribute to the further design and implementation of innovative web-based hydrogeology and environmental solutions. 

Intermediate GIS Developer requirements: 

  • Must have 3 to 5 years of experience with geospatial platforms, specifically experience with; 

  • WMS/WFS systems, 

  • Front-end geospatial interface libraries (e.g. openlayers, leaflet), 

  • Back-end tools such as gdal, mapnik and PostGIS or similar, and 

  • Spatial raster and vector operations/analysis. 

  • JavaScript and Python programming 

  • Knowledge of web framework architecture (Django preferred)  

  • Experience with relational database architecture (PostgreSQL preferred) 

  • Technical writing and documentation ability 

  • Experience with a source control system (e.g. git) 

  • Knowledge of Linux use and administration (ubuntu preferred) 

  • Must be inquisitive and eager to learn with excellent communication skills  

  • Ability to effectively manage time and workload 

  • Knowledge of R statistical programming language is an asset but is not required 

  • Declarative programming experience is an asset (e.g. Riot, React) 

 

ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Back-end development of internal and client facing geospatial applications (Django) 

  • Front-end design and styling  

  • Scripting and application development for custom solutions related to our business workflow 

  • Relational database management 

  • Prepare, load or automate geospatial datasets 

  • Minor Linux administration (e.g. creating users, managing permissions)

Intermediate Hydrogeologist/Environmental Engineer/Hydrogeochemist, Calgary, Alberta

Waterline Resources Inc. is a leading environmental consulting firm specializing in the investigation, evaluation, risk assessment, and remediation of contaminated sites. Due to growing project demands, we have immediate openings for experienced and motivated environmental professionals in our Calgary office.
 

This position involves a combination of field and office work; travel will be required from time to time, as project needs dictate but this position is primarily office-based. The successful candidate will coordinate projects, direct and supervise field staff, liaise with senior professionals, subcontractors, remediation contractors, and clients, prepare reports, and participate in marketing and business development efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 to 10 years experience in contaminated site assessment, remediation, hydrogeochemistry or risk assessment

  • Bachelor degree or technical diploma in hydrogeology, civil/geoenvironmental/chemical or environmental engineering, remediation, geochemistry, project management, risk assessment, or a related field

  • Demonstrated track record of increasing project responsibilities

  • Experience with both the Alberta and British Columbia regulatory regimes is considered to be an asset

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and writing skills

  • The ability to be flexible and adapt to change

  • Registration or eligibility for registration with a recognized professional organization (e.g. APEGA)

Junior Environmental Scientist, Calgary, Alberta or Prince George, BC

Waterline Resources Inc. is a leading environmental consulting firm specializing in the investigation, evaluation, risk assessment, and remediation of contaminated sites. Due to growing project demands, we have immediate openings for experienced and motivated environmental professionals in our Calgary office. This is a contract employee position that will include a significant fieldwork component.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of one year of experience in environmental science or engineering discipline

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree from a recognized university in environmental or soil science, geology, hydrogeology or engineering discipline

  • Registration or eligibility for registration with a recognized professional organization (e.g. APEGA)

  • Candidates with groundwater monitoring and sampling, drilling supervision, wellsite geology, well installation, and/or aquifer testing experience are preferred

  • Candidates must be comfortable working in a remote field setting for extended periods of time, including soil and groundwater sampling, and water well sampling and testing in winter weather

  • Strong work ethic with well-developed organizational and time management skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication

  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • Proficiency with MS Software Word, and Excel

  • Valid health and safety training certificates: Standard First Aid, H2S-Alive, TDG, WHIMIS would be an asset

  • The ability to be flexible and adapt to change

  • Valid Alberta Driver’s license (must provide Driver’s Abstract)

  • Must be willing to submit to drug and alcohol testing
